Green Commitment
Lean, and Clean and Green
How does True North Cedar work to protect our environment?
True North Cedar is dedicated to giving our children and our grandchildren a part of the planet that has been preserved and protected as much as possible.
Owners Max Taubert and Hobart Finn are committed to walk the walk of environmental responsibility. But, here’s the deal….
These guys are loggers, and miners of the industrial forest. They are not environmental scientists. Neither of them ever really even liked school much, but they read a lot, and listen a lot, and they are willing to take some good advice most of the time. So please let Max or Hobart know if you have any good ideas on how they can be more green (and stay open for business)! E-mail us at Hobart@truenorthcedar.com or Max@truenorthcedar.com We really would welcome your thoughts.
Here’s what True North is doing now to try to insure that the product leaves a gentle footprint:
- Renewable Forests – Cedar forests in Minnesota renew in 40-65 years
- Used Equipment – Whenever possible, True North buys and re-tools used equipment, which sometimes saves costs, and sometimes doesn’t work out so great that way. It always saves waste, however.
- We recycle – all pallets are recycled and reincarnated and used again
- Our raw material is someone else’s waste – True North products are sawn from stumps, which are left in the field after much commercial logging
- We Make Mulch – We use all tree harvest waste to make our great garden and landscape mulch
- Leed’s Certificate Opportunities – Hooray! It’s true! True North does offer a specialty shingle compliant with Leed’s Certification. (It’s a bit more expensive – but it makes a statement). Our Leed’s compliant shingle is made exclusively from utility poles, bridge pilings, and old timber
- Off Peak Power – We use it
- Concentrated use of raw product – True North is particularly proud of our re-tooled two-man saw. We reworked it from a one-man saw, which enables us to get more products from less logs. Of course, this saves you lots of money, too!
Remember, we are open to more suggestions! We would like to be better global citizens, honest!
